BANFI ZAMBRELLI opened its studio in early 2003, launching its first collections and campaigns in the fall of that same year. A comprehensive design and branding practice, their work traverses the world of accessories, focusing on footwear and handbags, while extending broadly for certain houses, including fine jewelry, fragrance and furniture.
Their studio on Manhattan’s Broad Street, in the emerging fashion district newly anchored by Conde Nast, is a full-service agency with a proven track record in the formation of new businesses, the category extension of existing brands, and the reinvigoration of venerable companies. With a history spanning luxury and technology, they’ve been instrumental in the success of their clients for over a decade, a roster including Calvin Klein Collection, Derek Lam, Marchesa, Hunter Boot, Monique Lhuillier, Judith Leiber, Ghurka, Cole Haan and many others.
SILVANO BANFI was born into an accessory family in Milan, and by an early age was working with some of the finest houses in Europe. By the time he was 18, he was designing and producing for the likes of Gucci, Bally, and Gianni Versace. After a professorship at the prestigious ARS Sutoria Institute, he arrived in the U.S. in 1994, honing his talent with Calvin Klein, Banana Republic and Coach. At Coach he met Frank Zambrelli, where they collectively launched the brand’s successful extension into Men’s and Women’s footwear. In 2003, they joined forces once again to pursue a more personal vision of how accessories should be made.
FRANK ZAMBRELLI was headed for medical school when an unexpected trip to the European shows radically altered his plans. Heading instead to the Fashion Institute of Technology, he graduated with a dream job at Chanel, alternating his time between Paris and New York. John Varvatos, then at Cole Haan, gave him his next big break, the opportunity to further develop his craft in European factories. His tenure led him to Coach and the successful launch of the venerable firm’s foray into new businesses. Connecting with Silvano, they realized they shared similar design views with a sincere interest in the art of finely crafted accessories, and vowed to someday begin their own studio. In 2003, in a remarkably tiny storefront in midtown Manhattan, Banfi Zambrelli was born.
Prior to joining Banfi Zambrelli in 2003, SARA DALY ROTER worked with Grey Global, where she supervised key media outlets for major brands within Diageo (KetelOne, Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Baileys, Crown Royal). She honed her creative marketing and design talents at Parsons School of Design in New York. Becoming a partner in 2006, Sara now focuses her efforts on Design Direction and Product Development. Working alongside the studio's two founders, Sara plays an instrumental role with each brand and collection, directing color, trend and materials with each of our global partners. She spends considerable time in Italy and elsewhere in Europe sourcing leading trends and inspiration for the studio and it's clients.
